A HISTORY OF BEDFORD CHRISTIAN ACADEMY
(formerly New Covenant Christian Schools)
In 1991, Providence (now called New Covenant) Reformed Episcopal Church embarked upon a school ministry under the name of New Covenant Schools. This school served the area of Lynchburg, Virginia. With a recognition of God’s Blessing and oversight of this school ministry, and with a desire to make this blessing available to Christian families in the Bedford County area, New Covenant Schools of Bedford was formed in 1996.
In 2004, New Covenant Schools of Bedford became an incorporated, nonprofit organization. In 2006 New Covenant Schools of Bedford was changed to Bedford Christian Academy.
More information on the history of the school is being developed.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
STATEMENT OF FAITH
The following is a summary of the primary doctrines which Bedford Christian Academy embraces and teaches. If at any point you have questions, please state your questions on the back of the application.
1) Holy Scriptures (Old and New Testament) contain all things necessary to Salvation, so that whatever is not found in the Scriptures, nor proved thereby, no one shall be required to believe as an article of faith.
2) There is but one living and true God, of infinite power, wisdom, and goodness. In the unity of this Godhead there are three persons, of one substance, power, and eternity; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.
3) The Son, of one substance with the Father, took Man's nature in the womb of Mary, so that two whole and perfect Natures, the Godhead and Manhood, were joined in the one Person, Jesus Christ, never to be divided. In his Manhood, Jesus Christ is like us in all things, except sin only, from which He is clearly void. This same Christ, both God and Man, truly suffered and was crucified, dead, and buried, to reconcile his Father to us, and to be a sacrifice, not only for original sin, but also for the actual sins of men.
4) Christ did truly rise from death, and took again his body, and ascended into heaven, from whence he will return to judge all men at the last day.
5) We are accounted righteous before God only for the merit of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ by faith, and not for our own works or deservings. Therefore, we are justified by faith only, as the Scripture teaches.
6) Good works spring forth out of a true and lively faith, and it is only by these works that a lively faith may be known.
7) The visible Church of Christ is a congregation of faithful people, in which the pure Word of God is preached, and the Sacraments (Baptism and the Lord's Supper) be duly ministered according to Christ's Ordinance.
WHAT WE BELIEVE ABOUT EDUCATION
WE EMBRACE THE AUTHORITY OF THE SCRIPTURES
The foundation of our education is a world view based on the unchanging Word of God - the Bible. In all subjects, Bedford Christian Academy strives to teach the principles necessary for making decisions and interpreting events and ideas in the light of the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
WE PARTNER WITH PARENTS TO PREPARE CHILDREN FOR LIFE
We believe parents and guardians are responsible for educating the children God has placed in their care. Bedford Christian Academy partners with parents in their role of nurturing children in the faith and academically preparing them for service in the kingdom of God. By modeling attitudes and behaviors which reflect the character of Christ, our faculty, staff and board seek to encourage by example. Academically, we combine rigorous standards of learning, which require growth in self-government, with individualized attention and classroom discipline. The decision to choose a classical Christian education for your child indicates your ongoing commitment as an active presence in your child's educational experience.
THE CLASSICAL APPROACH MAKES THE DIFFERENCE
With Judeo Christian roots, Western culture was refined and shaped by the rediscovery and adaptation of the ancient Greek and Roman educational method known as The Trivium. This successful teaching method resulted in progressive developments in general knowledge, the arts and technology from medieval times through the Industrial Revolution. The Trivium , implemented in the light of God's revealed Word, gives students the essential tools for lifelong learning. The result is students who have the ability to learn the basic facts and concepts of any subject, to evaluate and interpret ideas intelligently, to think critically and creatively, and to present information in a polished, effective manner. An integral part of our program is the mastery of Latin. We believe that students must also be firmly grounded in the basics of language arts, mathematics, art, science, history, music and literature.
